Meerkat Films was launched in 2006 by husband and wife team Magnus Dennison and Katja Roberts; initially devoted to documentary production, later moving into drama and working internationally. We have always been drawn to stories about the people of the North East and the rich culture that exists in the region. Whenever possible we have tried to make films that encourage social change and shine a light on culture or people who are otherwise under-represented.
Katja Roberts
As creative director of Meerkat Films I have 18 years’ experience writing, directing and editing across documentary, factual entertainment and drama. I am drawn to telling stories that explore and celebrate the complexity of being human, raise awareness of important issues and navigate challenging territory in ways that subvert expectation and leave audiences thinking.
My work has won a number of awards and reached audiences through the BBC, National Geographic, online platforms and festivals worldwide. I am also a multi-camera director and editor on a wide range of projects that include live work and theatre capture, and I work closely with theatre teams to create innovative digital adaptations of theatre productions, often with a focus on social change.
Magnus Dennison
I’m a Producer for Meerkat Films with over 18 years experience working in a variety of genres including broadcast documentary, broadcast factual entertainment, short and long form drama and live production.
As well as producing films in-house at Meerkat Films I have worked extensively with other production companies in the capacity of Line Producer, Fixer and Cinematographer. I’m also passionate about supporting new talent and have worked as mentor and lecturer for various institutions.
I relish a challenging project with lots of moving parts and believe strongly that a film set should be a positive and enjoyable place to work for everyone involved.
